How to get notifications working in the app

November 27, 2020

If you’ve recently stopped getting reminders to log your symptoms in the ZOE COVID Symptom Study app, it might be because of something we did. Here’s how to fix it.

Why am I not getting notifications?

There are a few reasons why notifications may not be working for you.

An Android update logged users out in November

Over the weekend of November 21/22 2020, we pushed out version 2.0.0 of the app in both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The release had a bug that logged out our users on Android devices. If this happened to you, you would have stopped receiving notifications until you logged back into the app.

If you’ve forgotten your password and can’t log back in, click here, or simply click 'Forgot your password?' on the bottom of the app login screen. Enter the email you registered with and we’ll send you a link to rest your password. You may have to wait up to an hour for the reset email to arrive in your inbox or junk folder.

You’re on a old version of the app

Because of the bug in version 2.0.0, we quickly rolled out an update. Head the Google Play Store or Apple App Store to check the version you have downloaded. You can manually update it to the latest version: 2.0.2. Make sure you’re connected to wifi and have a good connection speed when updating any of your apps.

Battery optimisation settings may be blocking notifications on your device

Your phone may have battery optimisation settings that block some notifications. If you’re still not getting notifications, take a look in your phone’s settings and either turn off battery optimisation or adjust the settings to allow push notifications if you can.

Checklist: How do I get notifications working again?

  • Make sure you’re logged in to the app. If you’ve forgotten your password you can easily reset it.
  • Make sure you’re using the latest version of the app. Go to the Google Play Store or Apple App Store to do it manually and check your phone’s settings to make sure your apps are automatically kept up to date.
  • Check your phone’s settings to make sure push notifications are enabled and not blocked by battery optimisation settings.
